Waterton Lakes National Park receives Federal Government funding

The Federal Government announced $20.9 million in funding for Waterton Lakes National Park to support the recovery from the 2017 Kenow Wildfire.

This funding will go a long way to rebuilding damaged infrastructure and assist in the recovery of the beautiful landscape. It is imperative to repair the fire damage to open trails and roadways within the park and invite the world back to Waterton Lakes National Park.

Since this devastating fire, I have met with residents, business owners and patrons of Waterton Lakes National Park. Throughout the hardship, our community has come together to rebuild and promote.

I commend the long-standing efforts of the local Chamber, business owners and community supporters to revitalize Waterton Lakes National Park as it is today.

With the partnership of Parks Canada and the Government, collaborative efforts to raise awareness and generate interest are essential.

I want to once again commend the Parks staff and the firefighters who came from throughout Alberta and BC to help battle the incredibly fast-moving fire. It was only through the dedication and tireless work ethic of the first responders that there was no loss of human life and the iconic Waterton townsite was saved.

I encourage everyone to take a trip to Waterton Lakes National Park, be captivated by the surroundings and welcomed by the community’s hospitality all while supporting Canadian businesses.
